Shetland Pothole Repair Contractors

Not only are potholes unsightly and damaging to vehicles, early repairs prevent further damage down the line.

The root cause of most potholes in Shetland in water. Existing potholes let more water in under the sub-surface, so repairing a pot hole now will prevent the formation of larger potholes and further deterioration later.

Potholes in Shetland are commonly caused by the shape of the underlying ground. After the permeable road surface has been laid, it will soak up rain.

When temperatures drop below freezing, ice forms and expands, causing damage to the surfacing. When thawed, the surface can break in a way that matches the underlying shape of the ground, therefore creating a pothole.

Patching is the process of filling potholes or excavated areas in Shetland road surfaces. Rapid repairs of potholes help control further deterioration and means you potentially delay expensive resurfacing jobs.

Road and driveway pothole filling is usually carried out in Shetland using a 4 stage process:

1. The pothole is cleared of loose debris and poor quality tarmacadam
2. A ‘tack coating’ of bitumen is applied to the pothole’s inner surface
3. A hard-wearing tarmacadam mixture is poured into the pothole and levelled off
4. Edges where the pothole repair meets the main road surface are sealed with bitumen
